The Norwood Italian Lodge #1235, a local chapter of the Sons of Italy, recently held its Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner on June 5, 2018, at Four Points by Sheraton, on Route One, Norwood. Lodge President, Steve Eosco, greeted the nearly 60 members and guests.
Scholarship Chairwoman, Toni Eosco, also welcomed those in attendance. In particular, she recognized lodge members, Barbara Campagna and Winnie Carfagno, for their volunteer work on the scholarship committee. Denise Furnari, a Norwood Lodge member as well as the State Grand Lodge 1st Vice-president, was also welcomed and thanked for her work all year long for the Lodge. The scholarship award presentations took place immediately following a delicious dinner.
The Italian Lodge has a long history in support of youth and education.Through the generous donations of numerous friends and family members, two memorial scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each were awarded in memory of longtime lodge member, Barbara A. Bilotta. Scholarship committee member, Barbara Campagna, made the first award presentation to Delia Bartucca, a graduate of Norwood High School. Delia is the daughter of Caroline and Christopher Bartucca as well as the granddaughter of lodge member, Delia Bartucca, of Norwood. Delia will pursue her degree at Villanova University. Scholarship committee member, Winnie Carfagno, made the second award presentation to Alyssa Naumann, also a graduate of Norwood High. She is the daughter of Gina and William Naumann as well as the granddaughter of lodge member, Mary Ann Naumann of Norwood. Alyssa will pursue her degree at Quinnipiac University. Lodge members congratulated Delia and Alyssa and wished them good luck with all their future plans.
Following the awards, guest speaker, Alyssa Ciolfi, a past Italian Lodge scholarship winner five years ago and now a Bridgewater State University graduate, spoke of some of the challenges of college life and job searching. She advised the scholarship winners to challenge themselves and pursue their interests with persistence and passion and to broaden their friendships through clubs and organizations. Alyssa is the daughter of John and Christine Ciolfi of Medfield, and the granddaughter of lodge members, Chuck and Palma Ciolfi of Norwood.
