The Norwood Italian Lodge #1235, a local chapter of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, recently held
its Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner on June 7, 2022, at Four Points by Sheraton, on Route One, Norwood.
Lodge President, Steve Eosco, greeted the over 40 members and guests who supported the event.
Scholarship Chairwoman, Toni Eosco, made several introductions, and recognized lodge members,
Barbara Campagna and Winnie Carfagno, for their volunteer work on the lodge's scholarship committee.
The scholarship award presentations took place immediately following a delicious dinner.
The Italian Lodge has a long history of supporting youth, education and Italian culture.
Through the volunteer work of its members to raise funds, and through the addition of memorial and
other generous donations, the Norwood Italian Lodge #1235 awarded two $1,000 scholarships.
Scholarship committee member, Winnie Carfagno, made a scholarship presentation to Sydney O'Shea,
a graduate of King Philip Regional High School. Sydney is the daughter of Ronnie and Colleen O'Shea
of Norfolk, as well as the granddaudhter of lodge member, Annette Casale O'Shea. Sydney will pursue
her degree in digital marketing/professional sales at Bryant University, RI. Scholarship committee
member, Barbara Campagna, made the second award presentation to Isabella Fraone, also a graduate of
King Philip Regional High School. Isabella is the daughter of Maurice and Alisa Fraone of Wrentham,
as well as the granddaughter of lodge members George and Filippa Sabatini of Walpole. Isabella will
pursue her degree in elementary education at Endicott College. Lodge members congratulated Sydney and
Isabella, both excellent students, who also earned the highest honors in this year's DECA (Distributive
Educational Clubs of America) competitions at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta,
Georgia. Grand Lodge President and Norwood lodge member, Denise Furnari, delivered remarks to the
membership and congratulated the scholarship winners - encouraging them to always remember their Italian
roots and their families who have supported them over the years.
Following the awards, guest speaker, James Dow, DECA Advisor and Marketing Teacher at King Philip
Regional High School, provided an enthusiastic description of the what the DECA program is all about and
how much it impacts students' learning and growth. Deca utilizes project-based learning to reinforce
classroom instruction and promote the development of 21st century leadership skills, especially in the
areas of marketing, business, finance, hospitality and management. Mr. Dow provided an energetic video
presentation of the recent large International Career Development Conference that took place in Atlanta,
Ga where Sydney O'Shea and Isabella Fraone competed and placed with high honors/awards. Following his
presentation, Mr. Dow answered several questions posed by the lodge membership. The Norwood Italian Lodge
greatly appreciated Mr. Dow's time and enjoyed his presentation.
