Norwood Sons of Italy Lodge 1235

2019 Massachusetts State Convention

DENISE FURNARI
ELECTED STATE PRESIDENT
OF THE MASSACHUSETTS
GRAND LODGE
OF THE
Order of the
SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ITALY

Denise Furnari of Norwood, Mass. was elected State President of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts at the organization’s 105th convention at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center in Framingham, Mass.

Outgoing President Antonio Sestito praised Denise for her many years of devoted service to the Sons and Daughters of Italy. She was elected without opposition and unanimously acclaimed. Indeed, Denise carries on the great tradition of her father, Angelo, who also served as State President.

Denise and the Sons of Italy hold a very special place in the hearts of the Italian American Alliance. For when the Alliance was first formed three years ago, Denise Furnari was one of the first to serve on The Italian American Alliance Board of Directors.

The Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America is the largest and oldest organization in the United States for Italian American men and women. Chartered in 1914, the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts alone encompasses Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont and has over 5,000 members. It is actively engaged in social justice issues and charitable giving.

President Furnari’s election guarantees future close cooperation between the ALLIANCE and the Sons of Italy. Frank Mazzaglia of Grafton and Board Chairman of the ALLIANCE was elected as a state trustee of the Sons and Daughters of Italy. Mazzaglia has pledged to support Denise Furnari, the new President of the Sons of Italy as she works to advance our Italian American Heritage.

“Today I have a dream, that someday, even if it takes a hundred or more years before we are fully accepted, our children and their children’s children will be proud to carry on our traditions, our culture, and language.
It is up to us and what we do today.”
